Al Cisneros, basses and vocalist of doom giants posted the following on their myspace blog:

God is Good – September 8th on Drag City
September 8th will see the release of the forthcoming studio album by OM.

The album is titled God is Good

Al Cisneros

  • Thebes
  • Meditation is the Practice of Death
  • Cremation Ghat I
  • Cremation Ghat II

The album was recorded March 2009 by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio, Chicago. Updates will be available via Drag City, omvibratory.com and here.

I can’t wait for this! The last album Pilgrimage was an incredible combination of doom and meditation. I think Al has grown since their first album Variations on a Them. If you have not checked them out yet you have to make it a priority!

Great Video with Aaron Weaver of Wolves in the Throne Room by Hardtimes.ca. In the interview Aaron discusses he and his girlfriend’s organic farm, paying for their tour trailer with carrots, the occult, 9/11, and more.

I feel that Aaron shows great insight into today’s society. Great stuff!

As most of you know by now, Hollywood has decided to do a movie on the book Lords of Chaos starring one of those teen age androgynous fellows from the Twilight movie, to play Varg Vikernes. Lords of Chaos is supposedly about the rise of the black metal underground in Norway. However, Vikernes made a statement in 2004 condemning the book:

…the vast majority of all the statements made in this book are either misinterpretations; taken out of context; misunderstandings; malicious lies made by enemies; a result of ignorance; extreme exaggerations; and/or third-hand information at best. This includes the statements attributed to me!…This book serves only one single purpose and that is to create a myth around my name and to mystify me. If that was their objective they have indeed succeeded with their work. Well, the book seems to have served one other purpose too. The authors have managed to fill the heads of a generation of metal fans with lies. What could have been a righteous revolt has been made into some pathetic, embarrassing, brain-dead, impotent and traditional poser-culture best exemplified by bands like DIMMU BORGIR — and indeed VENOM!”

After seeing the movie Until the Light Takes Us, I am inclined to think the same thing. Not so much that Varg is innocent, but that the black metal movement was something more than satanism if it was to begin with (was it? only they know). I am leaning towards the view that the book Lords of Chaos is more about hyping things up and making money than actual facts.

Look at the unauthorized Led Zeppelin biography, Hammer of the Gods, which was clearly a book that was made to make money and to idolize a group and make them more mysterious so the author can to sell more books. It is about making fucking money.

I think the movie “Until the Light Takes Us” is a little better representation.

Cory Doctorow has a great Review of “T-Minus: The Race to the Moon“, the story of the space race. Unfortunately this may be the only way to teach kids about history; through graphic novels.

With T-Minus Ottaviani once again brings the human side of science to life, conveying the passion, the wonder, and the frustrations of the scientists and engineers who “fought” the space race on both sides of the Iron Curtain. Superbly researched, T-Minus never lets go of the story, but still finds many sneaky ways of inserting the hard data about the rockets, their capabilities, and the scientists who worked on them into the book.

T-Minus: graphic novel tells the history of the space race – Boing Boing.

I am a survivor!  Why, because I am a Freak.  David Pescovitz at Boingboing.net posted a little blurb of an article for LiveScience about why unusual traits may presist in an animal population.

Predators detect common forms of prey more easily, the scientists figure. The majority that share a common look are always on the dinner menu, while oddballs are left to reproduce.

Freaks survive because they are strange – Boing Boing.

Resently a statement was made by the Negura Bunget camp that Guitarist and Vocalist Hupgrammos and guitarist Sol Faur had departed the band and that Drummer Negru was going to be continuing on.

Well now Hupgrammos and Sol have come out with there; their own statement:

We initially intended to remain silent on the reasons of our split. We all agreed to end our joined work and to release a simple and unspectacular statement to the press in order to prevent our personal animosity to become part of the story. It was agreed by all that none of the members would use the name ‘NEGURA BUNGET’ ever again in the future since the band as an entity was comprised by all three of its members. Negru’s act of making a public statement that is completely different from what has been agreed upon proves once more a total lack of respect for the other members of our and his own band. It proves his honor to be questionable as his acts are serving only his personal interest.
